Gutsy Gals Have Eyes on Champs; Mackay,COs Ashleigh and Amelia Have the World of Barefoot Skiing at Their Feet

SKIING: Mackay girls Ashleigh Stebbeings and Amelia Grech are dominating the national barefoot skiing circuit and they are poised to take on skiingCOs elite at the world championships next year.

Stebbeings has taken a break from training at the World Barefoot Centre in Florida, USA, and yesterday picked up another Senior North Queensland Sportstar award from the Mackay Regional Council.

She is feeling confident leading up to the world championships, which will be held in 2014.

C[pounds sterling]The national competition was the first one for the season but it went really well,C[yen] she said.

The modest 20-year-old finished first overall in Open WomenCOs division at the Australian Barefoot Nationals Championship in Darwin. She won the trifecta of gold in Slalom, Trick and Jump with 3000 points.

Grech is keen to follow in StebbeingsCO barefoot prints, and is well on her way after winning the overall Junior Girls on 2694 points. …
