FORMER Mackay woman Madonna McNichol was in her Boston office when explosions blasted the city on Monday.

At least three people have died in the two blasts just before 3pm Boston time (5am AEST) near the finish line of the Boston Marathon. Up to 170 people have been injured.

The tragedy occurred about a 20-minute walk from Ms McNicholCOs workplace.

She told The Daily Mercury yesterday she found out about the blasts about 15 minutes afterward, via Facebook.

Ms McNichol, who grew up in Mackay, has been living in Boston for three and a half years, working as an accountant.

Only an hour after MondayCOs blasts, she stepped onto the street and caught a train out of the city for work commitments.
