THE photo of a lady on display attracted lots of interest online and on Facebook.

THE mystery of the lady with an amazing collection of dolls which appeared on our website and Facebook site has been solved.

Though many thought it was a Slade Point doll collector, a former neighbour confirmed it is in fact Joyce Perrin, of West Mackay.

Joyce is still living at the same house and the doll collection, which was estimated to number about 600 back in 1982, when the photo was taken, has continued to grow.

Joyce estimates she has about 1500 dolls in her home now, and her passion began while she was just a child.

aWhen I was a child you only had one doll, especially as I was the youngest of 14 children,a Joyce said.

aBut we shifted into town (from West Plane Creek) when I was 10, and I saw a celluloid doll in the window of McDonaldas Newsagency.

aI saved for two years to buy that doll and I paid 25 shillings ($2.50) for it.a

When Joyce married and had two daughters, she said she always made sure they had dolls to play with and how to look after them. …
