LIKE a phoenix rising from the ashes, construction of the new Rock Valley post office, that was gutted by fire in September last year, is well under way.

After receiving a $25,000 donation from the Royal Agricultural Society Foundationas Community Futures Grant, Rock Valley Hall committee president Betty Olivieri said building work began in early April.

Mrs Olivieri said $10,000 in community donations was added to the grant money and an insurance payout to build the new post office, which was estimated to cost about $60,000.

aWe wanted to construct it as close to the original as possible,a she said.

aWithout that $25,000 from the Royal Agricultural Society we would have had to build something much less.a

Mrs Olivieri said after the community was rocked by the September 29 fire, they rallied in what became a fantastic community bonding exercise.

aRaising the money to rebuild the post office has been a wonderful community bonding exercise and a wonderful process for the whole community,a she said. …
