THE Conway family celebrates five generations at St Maryas College this year.

More than 100 years since Margaret McNamara (nee Quill) attended the school in 1910, the college continues to run through the veins of the Ipswich family.

Mrs McNamaraas daughter Clare Conway, 80, is the oldest surviving family member and finds joy in watching her grandchildren, great-nieces and one great-great-niece attend the college.

But the familyas connections to the school grew when Mrs Conwayas son Peter married Donna Conway (nee Winks).

Donna Conwayas grandmother Eileen attended St Maryas in 1922. Their ties now span four generations.

Between the Winks and the McNamara/Conway families more than 35 girls have attended St Maryas in the past 150 years.

Matriarch Clare Conway said the college had undergone many changes since she completed her senior year in 1948.

aWe had about 100 girls at the school when I attended. We were taught by the nuns, who were very strict,a she said. …
