I SPENT much of last week watching Hairspray, as you do when there is something very good going on.

ICOm biased but I reckon most of the 6000-plus Empire patrons who saw the show would share a view that it was an energy-packed hugely enjoyable production by a young cast of amazingly talented performers.

Mr Pinky was a little older than some of his admirers but he did look very special and we all deserve to get lucky once in a while.

Tracy TurnbladCOs mum, Edna, was freshly shaved and looking almost every inch the part.

Fairholme College graduate Meg Hamilton, alias the well-upholstered Tracy, was superb, demonstrating once again that a decent independent school education can sometimes be the basis for very quirky achievements.
