London Wasps wing Christian Wade, Saracens captain Steve Borthwick and Danny Care, the Harlequins scrum-half, are on the six-man short-list. The other three candidates are Gloucester's Akapusi Qera and Leicester's pair Julian Salvi and Tom Youngs.

"The length of the deliberations for the awards reflects the current standard of Aviva Premiership rugby," said Winstanley. "We had so many compelling candidates. The winner will be named on May 9 at the London Hilton Hotel.
