Cougars Roar to Win; Big Loss for Magpies as Casino Runs in 12 Tries

THE LOWER Clarence Magpies rounded out a weekend to forget for Clarence Valley rugby league with a 64-14 loss to Casino Cougars.

The Magpies entered the Maclean Showground fixture riding high after last weekas inspirational win against Evans Head.

Whatever confidence they gained from that win was shattered yesterday, as the Cougars ran in 12 tries against almost non-existence defence.

The damage was done in the first 15 minutes, with the Magpies having only four touches of the football as they fell 20 points in arrears.

Coach Ricky Binge said it was a crucial period, and one that ultimately decided the game.

The Cougars ran roughshod over their Lower Clarence counterparts, with fullback David Briggs, centre Todd Johnson and winger Teke Jackson all collecting hat tricks. …
