I WAS in the presence of something rather special earlier this week Co the Tour de France yellow jersey.

And not just any old replica Co the jersey Co a special edition created to mark this yearCOs 100th edition of cyclingCOs great race.

This is the real deal. ItCOs cyclingCOs baggy green. Iconic in every sense. Yet something came over me as I rubbed my grubby paws over the very fabric this yearCOs winner will wear down the Champs-Elysees in mid-July.

I couldnCOt help but feel the prestige in that yellow jersey has lost its shine with everything cycling has gone through over the past 12 months.

I got to spend 10minutes with the race director. HeCOs a former journalist himself. He knows the drill. His English isnCOt great. But itCOs good enough. In a somewhat cunning move he steered the tough answers through the mouth of an interpreter. ItCOs easier to filter out mistakes that way.
