ANTONIO and Kellie Teixeira were preparing to welcome Ethiopian siblings into their family when the Federal Government closed the adoption program.

The couple, who already had two adopted children, were still reeling from the heartache, but were determined to continue opening their home to more children.

aWe had submitted our file for our third adoption, we were approved for a sibling group,a Mrs Teixeira said.

aWhen the program closed, that opportunity was taken away. Our file was in Ethiopia along with many families on the Sunshine Coast. It was a really devastating time.

aThe children are old enough to understand that the opportunity to have younger siblings was taken away from them.a

Mr and Mrs Teixeira adopted Lachlan when he was four months old, in 2007.

He is Australian with a Filipino heritage.

aThen we were blessed with a second adoption,a she said.

Metaya, born in Ethiopia, was nine months old when adopted in 2008. …
