MANY former pupils gathered at Middlesbrough's Archibald Primary School to swap fond memories as it celebrates its centenary.

They included Kelly Glenn, 39, of Carlow Street, who was one of five generations - including her late grandad George Sturgeon and her son Jacob, 11 - to attend the school.

She said: "I really love this school - and it's so nice to come back. " Margaret Jackson, 57, who works at the school as a special needs teaching assistant and lives nearby at Ayresome Green Lane, said: "My relatives are related to the founder Alderman Richard Archibald.

"My grandad Edwin Ideson's sister Elsie married Arthur Archibald, who was a nephew of Alderman Archibald who gave the land for the school.

"It's a lovely school and I've worked here for 14 years. It's great to be part of its centenary."

Deputy chairman of governors Alan Sandham said: "It's so exciting as we are seeing generations of people who went to this school.

"People are also remembering famous people like Don Revie, the former Leeds and England football manager, who attended the school. …
