THE market this week was much the same as last week with 270 head selling. Butcher veal 260a300kg ranged from 157c to 169c kg. Light veal up to 240kg made to 150c with most in the 143ca 48c kg, while plainer calves in the same weight ranged from 129ca141c kg. Weaner steers lifted a bit this week with the prospect of a few showers everywhere and cows mainly made from 20ca107c depending on quality and there is not a lot of quality around at the moment.

It is unfortunate that everything which makes cattle prices good has turned upside down at this time of the year, mainly being the lack of feed and water in NSW, Qld and Vic and the Indonesian trade being stuffed up. All this has happened at the wrong time a just before winter when the huge sell-off of cattle happens every year. It goes back to the old supply and demand. …
