Mum Has Serious Hot Water Burns

A TOOWOOMBA mother and her four children were lucky to escape major injuries when a water heating system exploded in their home.

The explosion caused major damage to the familyCOs home.

Vanessa Spinks, her two daughters and two sons were settling in for the night at their Navajo St home in Wilsonton when the incident occurred.

Emergency services were alerted to the explosion shortly before 5.30pm on Sunday.

A pressure build-up in the hot water system, which was connected to a wood-fired stove, caused the explosion.

It is understood Ms Spinks sustained serious hot water burns to both her feet and legs as a result of the explosion.

Her seven-year-old son also received burns to parts of his body.

Ms Spinks said yesterday the incident had shaken the family who were now looking for a new place to live.
