Comeback Pays off for Equestrian with Two-Star Event Win

EVENTING: A rider who returned to the sport after his daughter joined the equestrian program at Scots PGC has won the two-star event at the Pursehouse Rural Triequathon at the Warwick Horse Trials grounds at Morgan Park at the weekend.

Stephen Stacey, of Buderim, won on Gunns Monty after improving from third to first in the final phase, showjumping.

His sister Alison Denny, of Dayboro, has recently returned to the sport after a long break and led from start to finish winning one-star in a field of 23 riding Wilberforce.

Stacey said his performance at the weekend was his best in a Warwick event.

He competed in eventing in the 1980s and made a junior Australian team.

Stacey said Gunns Monty was an eight-year-old gelding he first used for stock work on Ranmoor Station at Richmond.
