Barking Pets Made Neighbour's Life Hell; Woman Now Banned from Keeping Dogs

ANORTHUMBERLAND woman has been banned from keeping dogs at her home after a court heard her noisy pets are making her neighbour's life a "living nightmare". Marie Richardson, 52, of Ashington, was yesterday made the subject of a five-year anti-social behaviour order (ASBO) under which she is forbidden from keeping dogs at her property.

The order came after magistrates had heard how neighbour Jeremy Graham claimed he had suffered "torture" and "abuse" because of her constantly barking dogs.

Richardson appeared at the Mid and South East Northumberland court for sentencing having previously been convicted in her absence of eight counts of breaching a noise abatement order imposed by Northumberland County Council.

The Bedlington magistrates had heard how the order had been imposed in October 2011 following complaints by neighbour Mr Graham about the noise from dogs barking at Richardson's Pont Street home.

Noise monitoring equipment was fitted in Mr Graham's home, with a handful of the 222 recordings made played to magistrates.

Prosecutor Lisa Bishop told the court how within a month Richardson had been hauled before magistrates for four breaches, of which she was convicted.

However, the court heard the noise from the dogs had continued.

Richardson was charged with the further eight breaches, one each day from October 8 to 15 last year.

The court heard how on one day, the dogs were recorded barking from 5.46am.

Magistrates were told the dogs have continued barking despite the two prosecutions and despite animal welfare officers having visited Richardson to advise her on keeping the animals quiet.

Mr Graham, giving evidence, told magistrates how he has suffered sleep deprivation as a result of the dogs. …
