Byline: COUNTY SHOW Jo Blakemore? 0191 201 6440 ?

Farming and the family are well to the fore at this year''s Northumberland County Show on Bank Holiday Monday.

The country''s premier agricultural event is being held at its new venue in Bywell, near Stocksfield.

There are new classes this year for young sheep and cattle handlers, a junior KYC dog handling class for children over the age of six, a pet rabbit competition, plus a wide range of baking and handicrafts for under-16s to show off their skills.

The equine section is benefitting from greater space in the new location at Bywell, and has expanded its classes for all ages, including the newly introduced Show Pony classes in which children as young as three start their showing career in the leading rein class.

There are superb examples of cattle, sheep, horses, alpacas and goats to see, a KC Dog Show and the chance to get close to prize-winning rabbits, guinea pigs and poultry.

The show welcomes BSJA Show Jumping back for the first time since 2005, adding to the glamour and elegance of the day.

The Grand Parade at 3.30pm sees the winners from each livestock section on show in the main arena. It culminates in the award of the highest accolade of the show, the Champion of Champions sponsored by JS Hubbuck, agricultural merchants based in Hexham, and presented by its owner Geoff Hubbuck.

The show falls in Family Week, a nationwide series of events that celebrate the positive aspects of family life.

With that in mind, and this year's major sponsor being Northumberland College at Kirkley Hall, there are activities, competitions and attractions aimed at children and young people.

Acts lined up for the main arena acts include the Bolddog Lings motocross display team who will be performing gravity defying leaps and stunts from a huge mobile landing system, while riders provide a live commentary. …
