FOR Brothers, 77-and-a-half minutes of controlled football delivered them a 46-6 win over Goodna at Brothers Seery Park yesterday afternoon.

The other two-and-a-half minutes never got played, with the game called off early following a series of ongoing brawls.

It was an ugly end to an increasingly ugly game of football from the visitors, whose frustrations at being behind on the scoreboard spilled into indiscipline, eventually leading to the blue that saw the match called off early.

Goodna Rugby League Club chairman Gary Parker described the actions of his own clubCOs players C[pounds sterling]a disgraceC[yen].

It was a shame because for the first quarter of the match it was an evenly fought, high quality affair.

Then the Goodna discipline began to slip.

The first Brothers try came on the back of three successive penalties, the second from a Goodna error and the third from another penalty and a marched 10m for back-chat.

All were scored by Brothers centre Brook Alofipo, who notched his 100th try for the club.

Brothers led 18-0 at half-time.

The big question was how Goodna would respond in the second half and it was soon answered when the Eagles gave away a penalty on the second tackle after the kick off.

From the ensuing set Brothers halfback Jason Connors was hit late and high after a kick, by Goodna second rower Fou Fuimaono.

He left the field with blood streaming from his face and a suspected fractured eye socket, while Fuimaono remained on the field after being placed on report.

Brothers kicked the penalty goal after which Goodna crossed for their only try of the match, to forward Jackson Solofa.

The revival was short-lived.

Brothers winger Ben Seve scored in the 15th minute of the half and from there is became a procession the Goodna defence became increasingly ragged and Brothers piled on the tries. …
