GREYHOUND owners and trainers at each of QueenslandCOs seven tracks will be racing for increased prizemoney during June.

Control body Racing Queensland has allocated nearly $300,000 over and above what was advertised to racing at Ipswich, Albion Park, Capalaba, Bundaberg, Rockhampton, Townsville and Cairns.

The increase isnCOt new money as such. ItCOs money which had been in the prizemoney system but wasnCOt paid during the first 11 months of this financial year.

Cancelled meetings and programs which fell short of the regular number of races happen from time to time and prizemoney which was not paid under those circumstances is being utilised in June.

ItCOs a breath of fresh air. RQ could have easily kept the money or spent it on something else.

For Ipswich, Tuesday twilight meetings which have been $1350 for maidens and $2100 for graded races become $1600 for maidens and $2350 for gradeds.

Ipswich Friday twilight meetings have been $1350 for maidens and $2100 for gradeds. These become $1850 and $2600.

Ipswich non-TAB Saturday meetings rise from $500 per race to $1000. The figures quoted are total prizemoney for each race, not the winnerCOs share.

No feature races have been increased and I say bravo to that one too.

Next monthCOs group 1 Gold Cup at Albion Park is worth $75,000 to the winner. If it went to, say, $100,000 to the winner, itCOs doubtful that any better greyhounds would compete.

Spreading the available money across the lower grades and at all tracks gives everybody the chance of some extra earnings.

The main Queensland meeting of the week, which is Albion Park on a Thursday, will see graded races rise from $5000 in total to $6250 for June.

Proven formula

ITCOS a long-time proven fact that greyhounds which race well at Capalaba on a Saturday and back up at Ipswich within a few days usually finish in the money.

Racing on the straight track at Capalaba seems to sharpen greyhounds up mentally as well as being a good solid and safe hitout. …
