FOR families living long-term in Moranbah, the announcement of BMACOs plan to recruit 100% FIFO staff for its Caval Ridge and Daunia mines is another step towards the erosion of the community they hold dear.

Jackie Wood has lived in Moranbah for 16 years, raising four children there with her husband who works in the mines.

She believes the move takes choice away from workers and their families.

Ms Wood said the family-oriented nature of the town had dissipated with the increasing preference for FIFO and DIDO workers.

Sports teams struggled and they were reluctant to go to the local workersCO club after 5pm with their children because it was full of miners from out of town. …
