Must see

WHALES from the lighthouse, the resident shark and dolphin populations while diving or kayaking out to Julian Rocks, the Brunswick River from the comfort of the tour boat, and finally, the whole shire from the lookout at Coolamon Scenic Drive on the Pacific Hwy.

Must do

ENJOY the local farmers markets, stroll along Jonson S in Byron Bay, ice cream in hand, enjoying the buskers performing every 50m or so.

Also enjoy a drink and live music at the Rails hotel, or one of the myriad festivals and events.

Best local dish

THE Haloumi Burger from the Federal Doma a the Japanese cafe in Federal, in the hinterland, fast becoming the best place for coffee and Japanese food in the shire.

Best place for a picnic

WATEGOS beach or The Pass and along the foreshore in Brunswick Heads.

Why I love this place

THE beauty of the place is matched by the vibrancy, integrity and creativity of the community.
