REJOICE!

I am the bearer of great news; news of a beautiful truth, a throwback to times thought mothballed in a glory box of past goodness.

A fabulousness.

I speak of that most revered yet elusive gentlemanly quality - chivalry.

It lives.

How do I know? I have seen it with my own eyes. And such was it, that I was taken aback. Oh my! I may have even blushed.

Although that might have had something to do with the aesthetic (not to mention olfactory) pleasantness of the gallant deliverer.

I digress.

It was a Tuesday night in early June. A packed Virgin flight Brisbane to Mackay.

Tired. Disenchanted. Ready for home.

It was the small stuff, really. The pleasantness in getting up to allow me to take my seat (as opposed to the usual and sadly, predictable, rude grunt of obvious inconvenience). The fact he insisted upon taking my bags from the overhead compartment.

Certainly, the fact this chap in the jeans and grey tee, reading Sedgwick with a worn army sack was, well, lovely, helped his cause. …
