St. Augustine Woman Killed in I-95 Accident; Her Disabled Vehicle Was Struck by Another Car Early Saturday Morning

Article excerpt

A St. Augustine woman died after her disabled car was struck by another vehicle on Interstate 95 early Saturday.

Yvette Renee Montgomery, 55, was in her Toyota Avalon, which was stopped across the southbound lanes of the interstate at mile marker 335 in Duval County due to an earlier crash. About 1:30 a.m. her car was struck by a Ford Flex driven by Jason Wesley Scales, 35, of Anderson, S.C., according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Scales and his passenger, Jason Marshall Pless, 30, of Dewy Rose, Ga., sustained minor injuries. Both were taken to Baptist South hospital.

The collision occurred as Scales steered into the center lane to avoid debris in the right lane. His car struck Montgomery's vehicle on its right side. Both went off the roadway into the median. Montgomery later died at UF Health Jacksonville. All three had been wearing their seat belts, the highway patrol said.
