DONaT be surprised if many of the faces around town this weekend look vaguely familiar.

Hundreds of former Coffs Harbour rugby union identities and their families are back on the Coffs Coast for a 40-year anniversary reunion with dinners, rugby matches and countless convivial gatherings planned.

A committee, headed by Des Hoy, has spent thousands of hours tracking down names from the old days and while almost 400 will attend Sundayas anniversary dinner at Coffs Harbour Racing Club, many more that couldnat make it have become reacquainted with old mates, sometimes after many years without contact.

While he wonat be in attendance, local sporting legend Phil Crofts was able to capture the essence of what athe game they play in heavena means to devotees.

From last nightas Longreach stopover where Crofts and wife Elise took a break from their around-Australia caravan adventure, the captain of the rugby team of the 1970s sent a message to home turf.
