QI WANT to paint a door white but it has stain and wax coating. How do I remove it before painting? Christine Westmore by email AIT''S not a nice job. You can use a wax remover but I prefer white spirit and steel wool. It''s hard work so I would remove the door and put it on a bench so that you can get right into it. When the wax is all off, prime it and fill any defects. Then undercoat the door and again fill defects. Once dry, sand it. Give the door another undercoat to cover any wood filling and then a final topcoat of your choice.
