There's Nothing like the Thrill of a Good Book, Says Camilla

get london reading Evening Standard Campaign THE Duchess of Cornwall has written about the "thrill" of reading in a new book for children struggling with literacy.

Camilla helped to launch the , formerly known as Volunteer Reading Help, will be given a copy to use when they go into schools to help children who are falling behind with reading.

Pupils will start with the simplest versions of the story and progress through the levels. In a foreword to the book, which is published on Wednesday, the duchess praised Beanstalk for making a huge difference to the lives of children whose parents do not read with them. She said: "I believe passionately in encouraging a love of reading in young people of all ages.

"There is nothing quite like the thrill of opening a book and being transported into another world to meet new people and to discover their stories -- it's like making new friends."

Camilla added that her father also loved books and would read to her as a child at bedtime, and she has continued the tradition by reading to her children and now grandchildren. …
