I CANaT help wondering at the reasoning behind the many changes in services that have occurred in Gympie recently. Changes that we are told are for our benefit.

The movement of the Medicare office to Centrelink we are told is because aPeople lead busy lives and need to access government services in a way that suits thema (GT June 4).

For most people I would imagine that Mary St suits them more than OaConnor St.

Having to compete with other services provided by Centrelink seems a step backward to me.

But at least Medicare had the grace to notify us of the change.

Not so Queensland Rail, who moved their booking office from the Old Railway Station out to Gympie North, a round journey of approximately 10 kilometres from town.

They advertise when they are doing work on the lines etc and have to replace the train with a bus service but to my knowledge no advertisement has appeared about the change of venue for the booking office.

David Gibson replied very promptly to my query about this and he relayed to me that the reason was that the booking office was not being used and you could make a booking by phone and pay for it when you got out there. …
