THIS driver has channelled his silly side to help raise money for disabled children.

Staff at Cleaners for Causes have vowed to don banana outfits while going about their daily duties in a bid to do their bit for the Chronicle Sunshine Fund's Go Bananas appeal.

The campaign, which continues throughout the whole of June, is aiming to raise PS20,000 to help a string of youngsters who are in need of grants to buy specialised equipment that will make their everyday lives easier.

As a long-time supporter of the charity, Cleaners for Causes managing director Claire Heathcote decided to get on board and has implemented a number of ideas to help raise the cash.

Claire said: "We've been doing a lot to try and help.

"Personally, I have had a dinner party where friends came along and each paid money.

"We're also offering free collection from local businesses in the whole of the North East and we're trying to raise awareness by having our Go Bananas driver."

Caroll Pattison, director of the Sunshine Fund, said: "It's fabulous how local companies are embracing our Go Bananas appeal helping us raise the money to support the families who need our help.

"The Cleaners for Causes driver looks hilarious driving around in his banana suit and deserves a special thank you, especially when the weather is so hot."

The Go Bananas appeal has really taken off and the office has been abuzz with people contacting us, sending and calling in with donations, and requests for collection boxes and sponsor forms. …
