Making a Splash; DOWNTIME 5to 9 Accountant Claire Priestley Recently Launched a New Firm in Corbridge. She Tells FRANCESCA CRAGGS about Life out of the Office

CLAIRE Priestley crunches numbers by day. Yet out of the office, the 36-year-old accountant has a passion of a very different kind. She's been a keen swimmer since an early age and is currently training for her ultimate goal, a triathlon.

Claire launched Clarand Accountants in Corbridge in March this year with business partner Claire Yeats.

Claire said: "Although we have only been trading a few months, we already work with a varied clientele which keeps it interesting for us.

"We have just started to work with a successful band. Unfortunately I can't say who it is due to client confidentiality but it is certainly an exciting one for the portfolio."

Counting figures by day, Claire Priestley also counts her strokes at every given opportunity. With a passion for swimming since an early age, weekends, mornings and some evenings see her heading to the local pool for a bit of 'me time.' Claire said: "When I was younger I went to a school in Leeds, where I'm from, and the main sport was swimming. I quickly found that it was something I was good at and enjoyed."

Competing since the age of eight, Claire swam for Leeds which saw her train an average of eight times a week before and after school.

"I used to compete in big swimming galas in and around Yorkshire. I swam for my home town of Morley then eventually for Leeds so it was a big achievement for me at the time winning lots of medals for the 100metre back stroke and for the relay team," she said.

Claire finds it the perfect way to relax after a hard day in the office.

"Then, it was the idea of competing in something that I was good at. Now, I do it for exercise and health and I find it very peaceful. …
