Search Is on for City Commissioner; There Are 10 Candidates Vying for Interim Position in Brunswick

BRUNSWICK, GA. | The Governor's Office is conducting interviews to find an interim replacement for suspended City Commissioner James Brooks.

Stephanie Mayfield, spokesman for Gov. Nathan Deal, said in an email 10 candidates are vying for the seat. They include Susan Bates, Brad Brown, Christa McDowell Davis, Sandy Dean, Burnette "Bernie" Fulton, Felicia M. Harris, Robert Emmitt Nolan Jr., Lianne "Lulu" Wilson, Newton D. St. John and Audrey M. Gibbons.

Deals suspended Brooks April 29 after his indictment in Camden County on charges of racketeering and violating his oath of office.

Deal's executive order said Brooks was suspended "immediately and without further action pending the final disposition of the case or until the expiration of his term of office, whichever occurs first."

Several names on the list are familiar to voters in the city and county. Brad Brown is a former mayor, Sandy Dean has served on the city's Audit Committee and is on the Joint Water and Sewer Commission, Bernie Fulton, who has run for city office, recently was appointed to the Historic Preservation Board and Emmitt Nolan serves on a county committee to find a new use for the soon-to-be-vacated county jail. …
