HIGH-FLYING Redcar Bears are aiming for the top.

The in-form Ecco Finishing Bears already have a KO Cup semi-final against Rye House to look forward to, and take on Berwick Bandits at South Tees Motorsports Park tonight (7.30pm) sitting pretty in third place in the Premier League table, behind Leicester and Workington.

But team manager Jitendra Duffill says they are not content to rest on their laurels and are determined to challenge for top spot, a position they held twice early in the season.

Duffill's men have already beaten Berwick at home and away this season in the KO Cup and go into the match on the back of home and away victories against Scunthorpe in the KO Cup.

And Duffill said: "We need to keep picking up those points at home and getting what we can on the road.

"Looking at the fixtures, I think we can get ahead of Leicester - like us they're picking up points away but they've dropped a few at home.

"Workington look like they could finish top of the league but if they drop a couple of points, that lets us in.

"We're aiming for top place - that's always been the aim - and the way we are going, we can get there."

Berwick lost by a single point on their last visit to South Tees Motorsports Park in April after the Bears produced a stunning comeback from being 15 points down.

Since then the Bandits have strengthened by bringing in Great Britain international Edward Kennett.

However the Bears are in better shape too.

Carl Wilkinson, Mitchell Davey and Matej Kus scored just one point between them on that occasion, the latter of that trio being taken to hospital with a knee injury after a fall in his first ride.

Kus has since broken a shoulder blade while riding in a Test match for the Czech Republic against Poland and is expected to be out of action for up to a further five weeks. …
