Sean Dale never knew when to quit last week at the Palmer Cup in Wilmington, Del.

The Jacksonville resident who recently finished his college career at the University of North Florida, won and squared his singles matches by rallying from big deficits at the Wilmington Country Club. Dale went 2-1-1 overall as the U.S. won the match-play event against Europe 20.5-9.5. The Palmer Cup is named for World Golf Hall of Fame member Arnold Palmer and had its 17th playing. The U.S. is 9-7-1.

During the third-day singles matches, Dale was three holes down through the first four against Pontus Widegren. Dale was still four down with six holes to play, but then he birdied the last five holes to win 2-up.

In the final day of competition, Dale again had to claw back when he was four down to Julien Brun with five holes to play. Dale then won the next four holes with an eagle, two birdies and a par to square the match. Both players parred No. 18 to halve the match.

Kevin Phelan, Dale's UNF teammate, played for Europe and went 1-1-1. His victory was in singles, 3 and 1, over Michael Weaver.

The big prize will be a four-night, three-round golf vacation at Pebble Beach. Other prizes include a golf package at the Hammock Beach Resort in Palm Coast and weeklong passes for the 2014 Players Championship.
