Officer, Two Others Taken to Hospital after Accident

Three people were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries Saturday afternoon after an accident involving a Jacksonville police officer, police said.

The officer - who has not been identified - was responding to assist the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department when the accident occurred about 3:40 p.m. at Lane Avenue and Beaver Street.

The officer and an occupant from one of the three cars involved in the crash were transported by ambulance to the hospital. Another individual refused treatment, police said, but was later taken to the hospital.

It is not yet known if the officer's siren and lights were active or how the accident occurred, Jacksonville Sheriff's Office spokesman Shannon Hartley said.

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office divers were searching Saturday night for a man who may have drowned at Huguenot Park, police said in a statement.
