WE read much about baby boomers. If you believe some commentators, that generation is to blame for most of society's ills.

It seems there are too many of them. They're milking the NHS dry as they grow older and they're hogging all the jobs - except those people who have retired early and are taking their money abroad to buy winter homes in the sun.

The accusations against this selfish band go on and on.

But just a minute! I suppose I have to think of myself as one of this post-war baby boom generation. And I resent the claims thrown against us.

It's a sad fact that things are pretty tough for a lot of people - but that's people of all ages. An increasing number of people approaching retirement are facing the prospect of still having a mortgage and of having an inadequate pension pot. But as they're worrying about how they'll cope in that forthcoming retirement, the age when they'll receive that hard-earned pension is being raised and raised. …
