EX-WORKER TOLD TO REPAY STOLEN CASH; Woman Admits More Than PS2k Hotel Theft

A FORMER hotel worker who stole from the employers who trusted her has been ordered to pay the money back.

Debt-ridden Sarah Louise Rowcroft, 31, took more than PS2,200 while she worked at the family-run O'Grady's Hotel on Queen Street, Redcar.

She was trusted to bank takings, lived in a house rented from the hotel owners across the road, and was left in charge of the business when they were away, a court heard.

Prosecutor David Crook said her crime came to light when the safe was found to be PS100 down on August 3 last year. Banking figures had been manipulated to try to cover up the shortfall.

The hotel owners made further checks and found a regular pattern of money going missing - a total of PS2,230.

Rowcroft, of Hamilton Grove, Redcar, initially owned up but then cast suspicion on others, Teesside Crown Court was told.

She later pleaded guilty to theft between April 28 and August 3 last year, her first conviction. …
