THERE is an international flair to the Mackay Intermediate School Grade 8 class of 1959 reunion.

Former students from England and Canada have shown interest in a milestone gathering.

Betty Everson said the reunion would be held next year.

C[pounds sterling]We are looking at maybe 200-plus past students and their spouses attending,C[yen] Ms Everson said.

It will mark 55 years since the students left the school.

C[pounds sterling]In 2009 we held the 50-year reunion and this was well attended,C[yen] she said.

C[pounds sterling]Most of us hadnCOt seen each other for 50 years. We had 160 attend that function. Since then we have been able to locate more of the past students.C[yen]

Over the past four years regular functions have been held throughout Australia.

C[pounds sterling]The Grade 8 class had eight classrooms and in each class there were 40-plus students, so you can imagine how big the school was,C[yen] Ms Everson said.
