FISHING: Two mates had more in common than just their love of snapper when they cast their lines at a[approximately]The Wrecka off Grasstree Beach on Monday.

Ben Woods and Brendan Bella each managed to catch snappers that weighed exactly the same a 7.4kg a and only had 1cm difference in length.

However, their manner of catching the fish couldnat have been more different.

Woods used a hand line but it was lying in the boatas pocket when the fish decided to bite.

aIt took the reel out of the side pocket, and it took off out of the boat,a Woods said.

The ordeal forced the boys to lift their anchor and chase it about 100m away.

aI just had to hope the fish was still there, and it was,a Woods said. aIt was the first snapper I ever caught.a

It was also Bellaas first time catching a snapper.

aI had a rod and I dropped it down with squid on it and it took off,a he said. aI wasnat 100% sure what it was, but I had a sneaking suspicion. …
