THE State of Origin hangover still lingered for eight Sunshine Coast drivers who gave positive readings in roadside breath tests yesterday morning.

Nambour Police and crews from the Sunshine Coast Traffic Branch staged Operation Big Pineapple to target drivers who may have still been over the limit after the game celebrations.

Through modern number plate scanning technology, 4000 vehicles were checked by police at the Nambour-Connection Rd site over five hours.

Nambour Police Station officer-in-charge Gary Brayley said from 420 random breath tests, eight people returned positive readings for alcohol.

However, only one person recorded a reading over the legal limit. That driver will face a magistrate after blowing .088%.

aPolice targeted the day after Origin to remind people that regardless of what activities they were partaking in the night before, police will be out and about,a Snr Sgt Brayley said.
