Bali Result Gives Wilson a Boost

SURFING: CoolumCOs Julian Wilson has jumped four places on the world tour rankings after reaching the quarter-finals of the ASP Oakley Pro Bali.

Wilson, 24, was knocked out in the round of eight yesterday by Nat Young, his two wave total of 15.57 points (out of 20) falling short of the AmericanCOs 17.03.

After bursting out of the blocks, Wilson controlled proceedings for most of the heat and held a 14.67 to 10.66 lead with five minutes left on the clock.

However, a spectacular 9.6 tube ride from Young swung momentum back in his favour and left Wilson with too much to do.

Wilson has jumped to 11th on the rankings after making the quarter-finals for the second time this year, following on from his round-of-eight appearance at the season-opening Quiksilver Pro.

The event in Bali was taken out by the Gold CoastCOs Joel Parkinson, catapulting him into world title calculations.

Parkinson defeated Michel Bourez 13.86 to 12.67, putting the Gold Coaster in third spot on the world rankings behind Mick Fanning and Kelly Slater. …
