SWALWELL'S master blaster Chris Hewison hit an awe-inspiring double ton against hapless Leadgate last week and with his partner in batting destruction, Ian Pattison, also in sensational form this summer, the pair of them look like making it seventh heaven for their team.

The terrific twosome were more or less neck and neck in the run-scoring stakes until Hewison blasted out his double century, but he is now well in front in the race to 1000 league runs after taking his league aggregate from just nine innings to a staggering 789 at an average of 113.

Pattison is on 545 after the same number of innings, his average a mere 91, but the pair of them are way clear of anyone else in the top flight and they have powered Swalwell into a 45-point lead at the summit ahead of today's home game against Ponteland, which marks the half way point of the season.

Barring a major downturn in form they look nailed on to make it seven consecutive NTSL championships.

Ponteland have done well in their first season after promotion and currently stand in third place, 47 points behind today's hosts.

At least they won't have to face the other half of last week's batting battalion as Lee Whitfield, who made 115 not out in an unbroken stand of 294 with Hewison, is unavailable.

The champions therefore hand an opportunity to 14-year-old all-rounder Sam Heron who comes in for his league debut after impressing in cup-ties.

Ponteland show just one change with Iffi Faisal coming in for Paul Elliott, who is working.

Lanchester have made an interesting acquisition with the signing of Kevin Dixon who has joined them from Durham Cricket League outfit Kimblesworth, where he was the skipper.

Dixon is an old friend of Lanchester captain Stuart McPhail who has persuaded him to join, although he won't be available for this week's game against Percy Main because of the seven-day registration rule. …
