Winter Finds Families Catching on to Great Spots to Cast Line

NUMEROUS options exist for family friendly fishing spots that are producing some great catches at this time of the year.

Along the Gold Coast, the tailor are still on the move. They are being caught off the open beaches up to the Spit near the sand pumping jetty.

If you have access to a boat, larger tailor are being caught around the deeper channels near the Jumpinpin bar.

These tailor are great fun when they are on and will keep kids and parents occupied for hours.

Using baits of Western Australian pilchards and small metal lures is productive.

Larger flathead and bream are also making their presence known. They can be found along the entire southeast Queensland coastline.

Using the humble prawn or mullet gut as bait will result in numerous fish being caught. However, release the undersized fish carefully.

Top places to start chasing bream and flathead are the foreshores of Southern Moreton Bay and the estuaries south of the Gold Coast. …
