ARE you Tuned In? Well, this summer you should be, because that's the name of the new PS5m young people's centre on Redcar seafront, and there's a packed programme of events there just waiting to be enjoyed.

And whether it be fashion, media, performing, playing in a band, getting 'techy' or art and design, there are new experiences and opportunities to develop an existing talent or interest in the Council-run centre for children and young people in Redcar & Cleveland.

Inside there's all sorts of dedicated spaces for kids and teens to get involved, learn new skills and enjoy themselves. There's a recording studio, dance studio and performance area, mini hair salon, cafe and chill out zones, as well as the Connexions careers advice service on site.

A wide range of activities has been organised over the summer - and the team at Tuned In! are raring to go.

"Tuned In! was built with PS5m from the Department of Education's 'myplace' funding. The idea was to create an arts and media-based centre for young people across Redcar & Cleveland", explains Councillor Joan Guy, the Council's Cabinet Member for Children's Services and Education.

"The centre looks inspirational and the facilities we have here are second to none".

And that provides the basis for an exciting activities programme for 11 to 18 year olds and opportunities galore. You can try your hand at singing, instrumentation and recording music or get experience of broadcasting and the media.

"But you don't have to be a performer" explains Tuned In! Project Manager, Fran Golightly. "You can volunteer to assist with events and activities or go behind the scenes as a stage hand, for example. There are lots of ways to get involved - it's really varied and we've a great team of staff based here working with everyone who comes along.
