Battered Bears Ace Admits: I May Have to Rest

MAN of steel Micky Dyer is aiming to repeat his heroics when title-chasing Redcar Bears visit Berwick Bandits tonight (7pm start).

But the battered and blue Aussie ace plans to finally visit his doctor next week and fears he may have to take a break from riding in order to recover from his injuries.

The close season signing suffered a painful hip injury in a crash last week but has bravely continued riding despite much of his left leg being swollen and bruised.

He top scored in the Ecco Finishing Bears' KO Cup semi-final first leg win over Rye House on Thursday.

And he's aiming for another big score this evening when the Bears - currently second in the Premier League table - aim to repeat their KO Cup first round win in the Borders.

On that occasion, in April, former Berwick rider Dyer weighed in with a whopping 15 (paid 16) total as the Bears triumphed 46-44.

Now with the Bears three points behind leaders Workington with a match in hand but a clutch of clubs chasing them hard, another Shielfield Park victory would be very useful.

"It's important to make the gate there because it's really hard to pass," said Dyer.

"Hopefully we can repeat our KO Cup victory there."

But Dyer, who has also been riding for Poole in the top flight, has been hobbling because of his injury, will seek specialist advice on whether he should spend a spell on the sidelines next week.

"I'm in a lot of pain at the moment," admitted Dyer.

"I shouldn't be riding and I'm thinking about taking a rest.

"I've been struggling in the last few meetings, in the Elite League and for Redcar, and I should have been doing better than what I am, so it may be best to take a break and come back when I've recovered.

"I'm going to go the doctor on Monday and see what he says, then go from there. …
