Artist Lecture to Be Part of 'Crush' Debut at MOCA

A new Project Atrium exhibit, "Crush," featuring the work of artist Heather Cox, opens from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday at the Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville, 333 N. Laura St.

Cox is in the process of filling the 2,600-square-foot Haskell Atrium Gallery with 75 sculptures of the human physique. Each figure is composed of stacked white boards that are taken apart, then reassembled with some pieces missing.

Cox will deliver an artist lecture from 2-3 p.m. Saturday. The lecture is free but space is limited; those who wish to attend should register at It will be followed by a reception from 3-5 p.m. which is free to members and $10 for non-members.

The exhibit will continue at MOCA Jacksonville through Oct. 27.


The romantic comedy "The Last Romance" opens Tuesday in the Koger-Gamache Black Box Studio at Limelight Theatre, 11 Old Mission Ave., St. Augustine.

Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. each Tuesday in July and at 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday through Aug. 11. Tickets are $20 or two tickets for $25 on Tuesdays.

The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens will present the animated movie "Cars" at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the gardens. The Cummer is presenting a series of car-related movies this summer while it features the exhibit "Future Retro: The Great Age of the American Automobile," which continues through Sept. 8.

Moviegoers are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs and can either pack a picnic basket or purchase food and drink from the TreeCup Cafe. They can also tour the exhibit before the movie plays.
