SPORTY students got into the swing of things at Prior Pursglove College as they joined in on the Wimbledon spirit with a pop-up tennis tournament.

16-year-old Scott Atkinson from Redcar (ex Redcar Community College) was crowned as Prior's very own Andy Murray after triumphing during the afternoon tournament, coming through some tough competition from Andrew Turton (ex Laurence Jackson School) in the final.

The pop-up tennis club at Prior Pursglove is one of a number of initiatives organised by Street-Games, an organisation which aims to deliver new and exciting sporting activities aimed at young people.

Mandy McLean, Prior Pursglove College's sports maker said: "The Pop-Up Club is a great way for students to experience tennis. This offers them a fun and easy way to play without it being too expensive. The club, along with the buzz of Wimbledon will boost the uptake of tennis as a sport."

Sports manufacturer HEAD UK has sponsored the first phase of tennis pop-up clubs by supplying rackets, balls and mini tennis nets for the new projects. …
