Aussies Won't Recall Veterans; Lehmann's 'No' to SOS Calls

DARREN LEHMANN insists Australia will resist the temptation to bring back Mike Hussey or Simon Katich despite their disastrous batting performances in the first two Ashes Tests.

There have been calls for Australia to recall the veteran pair after the team collapsed to 128 all out in the first innings of the Second Test, giving England an easy chance to go 2-0 up in the series.

Yet despite the clear fragility of the top six, and the excellent form of Katich, who is playing for Lancashire, coach Lehmann says he and the selectors have no plans to look beyond the touring party.

Asked whether they would consider doing so, Lehmann responded with a curt "No". He added: "I hope the problems can be fixed from within the squad. We have to bat better, we know that. To last only 53 overs in the first innings is not acceptable for this group.

"I felt sorry for the bowlers at Lord's. They need more time off than they had in the first innings and they need a bit of a reset before they have to go out and bat again. …
