Tapping into a Sacred Space; New Performing Arts Studio to Open in Tyneside Catholic School

BUDDING stars of the stage and screen are set to benefit following the launch of a state-of-the-art dance and drama venue at a Tyneside school.

The Dance Studio at Sacred Heart Catholic High School in Fenham, Newcastle, is a purpose-built creative environment, designed to support young people in the performing arts.

Friends of the school, including governors, neighbouring school heads, representatives from Northern Stage and local parish members, were invited to launch the studio.

The Studio, which opens officially in September, will offer a range of classes in dance styles including jazz, contemporary and freestyle.

The facility will not be solely for Sacred Heart's pupils, but also for dancers of primary and secondary school age from the wider dancing community.

Deputy headteacher David Bartley said: "The arrival of this fantastic new facility is a really exciting development for Sacred Heart and complements our existing outstanding provision for drama and music in the school.

"We already have dancers of astonishing ability in our school and hope that this new studio will allow us to nurture many more in the future."

The Studio was the final part of the development process that has seen all the buildings at Sacred Heart being either completely renovated or built from scratch. …
