All Change in Hope of a Warm Beer Festival

WHITLEY Bay Beer Festival is this weekend and, while it can never promise good weather, has a much better chance of seeing the sun than last year.

The freezing cold beer festival last year in October saw snow falling on the Thursday night, and the volunteer staff serving the few brave customers wearing gloves.

Therefore, this year the organisers have had a rethink, ditching the drafty marquee and the unpleasant time of year for more favourable conditions.

The second Whitley Bay Beer Festival will be held in the Seahorse pub, next to Whitley Bay FC, from today until Sunday.

In keeping with the hopefully blisteringly warm weather, Tyne Bank Brewery, based in Ouseburn, will be launching a new beer at the festival. Tropical Haze, a 4.5% ABV superb naturally-cloudy wheat beer has a delicious sweet mango taste and was first trialled at the Battle of the Beers at this year's Newcastle Beer Festival.

It proved so popular that Julia Austin of Tyne Bank Brewery has decided to brew it again, and relaunch at the Whitley Bay Beer Festival. …
