Ameobi Is Keen to Repay the Faith

SAMMY AMEOBI has spoken of his gratitude to Alan Pardew after being handed his chance to shine with Newcastle United's first team.

The 21-year-old - who will be involved in tonight's clash with Rangers (7.45pm) - looks likely to stay on Tyneside rather than be loaned out to the Championship.

Ameobi spent the second half of last season on loan at Middlesbrough.

But Pardew will lean on Ameobi, Paul Dummett and Haris Vuckic as back-up players to the first team. s

After being praised by his manager, Ameobi told the Chronicle: "It's nice to hear that.

"He's always believed in my ability, but it was my application that he wasn't sure about.

"Going to Middlesbrough on loan last season, and learning what it's like to be a big part of a team, really helped me.

"It's helped by my work ethic. That's helped me this pre-season. Hopefully, I'll continue doing that. I want to do it on the Premier League stage."

Geordie Ameobi will be hoping for another solid display at Ibrox tonight against the Scottish League One outfit. …
