NORTHUMBERLAND slumped to a 123-run defeat at Suffolk to complete a forgettable East Anglian double having lost their previous championship game at Norfolk.

North could have few complaints at the result and now have only one more chance to get their first three-day win of the summer when they entertain Cambridgeshire.

Team manager Stuart Tiffin saw his side bowled out inside 60 overs for 217 when chasing a sizeable victory target of 341.

Tiffin said: "Two consecutive away games in East Anglia has been tough. They were long trips and we were well beaten in the end at Suffolk. It was a bad final day after we had been second best in the first two days. The scores don't lie, and we now have to make sure we play well in our final game and end the season on a high.

"Too many people got in and then got out and no one was able to go on to make a big score which we needed chasing a big score."

Former Durham off-spinner Nicky Phillips kept Suffolk's second innings in check with a five-wicket haul, the home side declaring after 61 overs having reached 224-8. …
