ROY HODGSON has dismissed any concerns over Wilfried Zaha's attitude and challenged the winger to take a step towards establishing himself at international level against Scotland next week.

The 20-year-old was named in a 25-man squad for Wednesday's friendly at Wembley after Hodgson received several positive bulletins regarding his progress over the summer.

Zaha's consistently impressive displays for Crystal Palace prompted Manchester United to pay [pounds sterling]15million in January but they only acquired his services during the summer after agreeing to loan him back to the Championship club for the second half of last season.

Although Zaha earned plaudits during that time for his application despite a move to the Premier League champions already assured, there were thought to be concerns within the Football Association over his focus during England Under-21's ill-fated European Championships campaign in Israel. However, Hodgson has received encouraging reports about Zaha's behaviour during pre-season from new United boss David Moyes and the England manager is keen to hand him his first start, having made just one senior appearance to date -- a seven-minute cameo during November's 4-2 friendly defeat to Sweden in Stockholm.

Hodgson said: "I worked with him once in Sweden, he was very good in those three or four days that we got together and he actually played a part in the game. I am selecting players from what I see. I am not interested in making judgements on a tournament that [I wasn't involved in].

"I know from David Moyes and Gary and Phil Neville that he has been playing exceptionally well.

"He is an exciting young talent. It will be up to him to show that he has the ability to stay in the seniors squad. …
